The newsletter is saved in a flip book format for those that want to read it online with any electronic device. The display is responsive and will adapt to any device that you are using, including mobile phones. We introduced flip books in 2023 when the newsletter was getting larger with better images and electronic links to other media.
The user experience with Flip Books is very high. Because they are served directly from the BMWOCSD server, no download is needed and startup up is almost instantaneous. No longer will you need to download the PDF file in order to enjoy Road Signs. Plus, they look great on the screen with its animated "page turning effects" and we included a toolset for searching for words, downloading as a PDF, printing, emailing the newsletter and bookmarking for you to return later to continue reading. There's even a magnifying glass to zoom up whatever is under the "glass" a bit to examine the photos just a little more carefully.
Only the highest resolution available for any given edition of the newsletter is saved as a Flip Book.Since Flip Books "highlight" in real time any link that the mouse or your finger is hovering on, there is no longer any need to show active links with a stylized underline.
We highly recommend that you use the Flip Book versions of the newsletters instead of downloading PDFs. However, we will keep the PDFs available for you if that is how you want to read (see below).
PDFs are for those that want to download the newsletter, either to read it offine in normal resolution or high resolution, or print in high resolution. Note that starting in 2023, some of the high resolution PDFs can be well over 100 MB in size, so be patient when downloading.
Something new that we are trying is to allow for comments on some articles in Road Signs. Because it is being moved more towards an interactive digital format, members can leave comments on articles via a link in the PDF to the BMWOCSD web site. This service will be available with the first Road Signs edition starting Jan 2023.
At the end of the article in the Road Signs PDF will be a button with the label "Comments". Click on that button to be taken to a web page listing all the comments for that article. To leave a new comment, you need to sign in with your account email address and password. The button below will bring you to a list of all articles and their comments from the members. It will only be enabled if you are signed in.
Update for late 2024 Comments have been turned back on for Road Signs in Nov, 2024. Hopefully, members will use this feature to communicate feedback back to the authors.
Write an article for Road Signs and contribute the club. We'll print your story in the next edition of Road Signs. Tell us all about your last ride. Or show us how to do something technical to keep our bikes in tip-top shape. Or put together a route for a great ride - anywhere! Include lots of photos (PNG or JPEG) or videos.
The deadline for submissions is 7 days before the end of each month. Contact the editor with your story and share it with others.
